1. The organisation shall be known as The Biofilm Club , henceforth referred to as the club.
2. The object of the club is to further the communication and discussion of research findings and
ideas relating to the attachment of microorganisms to surfaces, their subsequent formation into
biofilms and the science relating to the biology, control and exploitation of biofilms.
3. In order to further its objectives the club shall organise regular meetings and promote the
circulation of a newsletter and/or journal. One of these meetings will be held every two years at
Gregynog, where attendance will have to be limited to 120 participants. Other symposia or workshop
meetings will be held on a more regular basis. The newsletter will be circulated to registered members
at least twice yearly and will be used to keep the membership informed of the developments and
future meetings of the club.
4. The club shall be made up of a general membership, together with an organising committee elected
by that membership and comprising a Chairman/convenor, a treasurer, a club secretary and three
ordinary members, at least one of whom would represent industry and one who will be in charge of
the biofilm club website and promotion of the biofilm club.
5. Any person with an interest in the study of bacterial biofilms will be eligible for membership. An
annual membership fee , the size of which will be decided annually by the officers of the club will be
charged to defray organisational costs and publication. Applications for membership to be made in
writing to the club secretary.
6. Members offering papers for presentation and failing to attend without good excuse will be
prevented from standing for office for 2 years and six months.
7. Officers of the club normally serve for four years from election.
8. Elections will be held by postal ballot of the membership to replace two committee members every
two years. Nominations from the membership will be canvassed no less than 10 weeks preceding the
ballot date. In the event of an unforeseen resignation in the interim period, Committee members may
seconde a temporary committee member.
9. Elections will be to the club committee, and the elected members will then agree between them the
appropriate officers.
10. A report on the club's activities and on the accounts will be presented at the Gregynog meeting
and subsequently in the Newsletter.
11. Any changes to this constitution or other major matters affecting the running, of the club will be
decided by a postal ballot of the whole membership.
